Anyone done anything with Key Management?

From: kevwertz (2013-03-11 16:27)

Hey folks, I know Tririga has keys and locks management but I wonder if anyone has configured Maximo to do it.
If so, would you be willing to send me a few screen shots of your solution? I have a demo tomorrow for a group within our company looking at Maximo and one of their requirements is for key management. Would like to have at least something to show them of how it could be configured in Maximo.

A couple of years ago Lawrence Berkeley did a presentation on how they manage their keys. You can find the presenter through the phone book on their site.

Below is the information from the agenda.
Lawrence Berkeley National Lab IT Dept. Presents: “Facilities Lockshop”
Presented by: Praveen Muramalla - LBNL
Lockshop enabled LBNL to efficiently Create, Issue, Transfer and Track Keys. The Lockshop implemented
in Maximo allowed LBNL to automate its current paper process. Maximo Lockshop uses Assets, Service
Requests, Work orders, Locations, Sequence Master and Work Request Center for creating new Work
Orders and Service Requests.

We use the key as an asset with the asset type as key.

Great info Birdiemum, thanks!
Webee, thanks, I was kind of thinking that if I did it myself that I would
clone assets. That way I could use the users and custodians function to
assign those keys to people.

Treating keys as assets is almost certainly the way to go. In addition to
user/custodian functionality, you can also classify your keys, then create
a data specification to hold manufacturer, blank pattern, template number,
and any other pertinent information, using conditional expressions (or
rules) to control access to the specification.

Rotating assets and use tools to manage them, just a thought, have never
had a client willing to do all the setup and the overhead of keeping this
up.
