Hello,
I am wondering how the ID of existing locations or assets be modified in Maximo 7.5? Thank you very much!
Pine
Pine,
Is there a requirement to merge systems?
Could you use assettag instead of assetnum? For example, if your asset ID is
auto numbered and you want to change it to smart numbers, can you add the
smart ID to the assettag field instead of modifying the current assetnum
field. Not sure how many asset records you will be changing, but assetnum by
itself is in 133 out of the box objects in Maximo 7.5.
For locations you could create another attribute similar to assettag.
Or you could duplicate each asset/location using the new ID number. Then add
a reference back to the original ID for historical purposes.
If neither of those will work you can always get your DBA to help you find
and replace the IDs you would like to modify.
This is why IBM (then MRO) wanted you to think about IDs before adding
records. I always recommend auto numbering records and using the assettag
(or other tag type) field whenever possible.
Let us know what you decide.

There are tools out there to do this but as has been said it is not a
trivial undertaking, you can look at MaxEdit here
http://www.ontracksconsulting.com/products/maximo-rename-tool.shtml or
Record Key Changer here
http://www.assetpartners.com/record-key-changer/but as has been said
this isn't a best practice as can really only rely on
the SAMEAS data in your database being entirely accurate.
Try it... test, test and test again before implementing!
