Staging materials in Maximo

From: Molly (2013-03-18 13:46)

Our Logistics group has a process where they will 'stage' materials that have been ordered for a particular project until everything has been received and the project has started. In some cases, the items may be ordered a year in advanced. A portion of the items ordered are non-inventory items thus when they are received they are issued on receipt. So, the 'issue' for that item has a date that doesn't reflect when it has actually been issued to the customer and they are not properly tracked in Maximo. I am looking for ideas as to how other companies have implemented this Logistics process in Maximo and how. Any ideas?
Thanks!

You could create a storeroom for the specific project and order the materials against the storeroom, receive to the storeroom and then issue to workorder when materials are needed.. This will keep the materials separate from stock inventory and also will not be issues to workorder until actually needed..

Yeah, I thought of that.  The users were balking at having an actual inventory item for everything but if that is the way it needs to go, that is it!  Right now, they have it as a type 'MATERIAL' on the PO.

Thanks!

Which version of Maximo are you on? I ask because in Maximo 7.5, there were some significant changes relating to that area.
