Error while Creating New Child workorder BMXAA6696E

From: raj_631 (2013-05-06 09:59)

Hi All,
I'm working on maximo 7.1.1.7 and getting an error while creating new Child workorder like
BMXAA6696E - The required field validation in the MBO failed for object WORKORDER and attribute ESTDUR.
I checked the field properties for estdur in DB configuration, the default value set as 0.00 and required check box is ticked.
Not sure where exactly where this is referring too. Please let know if any one got any idea.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Rajesh

I presume you are on the plans tab of the work order tracking screen and are clicking the new row button on "children of workorder ?????" table
If you open up the detail section of the record being created does the field "Estimated Duration" have 0.00 as its value ?

Is this in a table? I assume it is. I haven't looked in to this but 7.5
seems to have a habit at times of not displaying a row you add with "New
Row" unless you click next/prev - did you by any chance click "New Row"
twice and have a hidden WO that is not saving?

Can you talk us through the steps from opening the app? Are you creating one new WO and giving it a parent or are you adding a child in a table window within an existing WO?

Chris is right about additional records a common problem I see with the users is they hit the enter key while in a table which creates another record when they try to save it complains, however in this case I would NOT expect an issue with the estdur field as from your previous post you said it was being filled in when you click new row. It makes me think that there is some kind of customisation removing the value if its 0.00 so it causes validation to fail. This is a common requirement i.e. most processes state that an estimate of the duration is required before approval, In Maximo the field is mandatory but 0.00 is a valid value so allows it to be saved. If I have a process to implement I normally use work flow to control status changes and make the duration check a condition before approval, work flow also allows you to provide a much better error message. Can you recheck the fields after you receive the messages and check the ESTDUR values on the main record and the children are still present. Also if you change the ESTDUR fields to 0.01 does it save.

We currently run 7.5.0.4 and on my system I do not see this behaviour.

Can you also tell us if it’s happening every time you attempt this
Do you have any customisation such as automation scripts if so run this

Sql server you might not need the collate depends if your system has case sensitivity turned on
Select * from AUTOSCRIPT where SOURCE like '%ESTDUR%' COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

Or oracle I haven’t got an oracle database so hope upper works on the source field
Select * from AUTOSCRIPT where upper(SOURCE) like '%ESTDUR%'

ESTDUR should not have a default value in Database configuration, unless you are setting the value other than 0.00.. The default value is set to 0.00 as default in the code.. Can you try and remove the default value, run dbconfig and then try again?
Did this problem exist after an upgrade? or a clone of an application?
Also are you getting the same error when creating a new record from Activities and Task?

Hi,
Yes, the parent workorder have estimated duration value 0.00 by default. I found the issue occurring for suppose the main Workorder and Asset/Location GL Accounts are same we are able to save the child workorder successfully.
If GL account different for parent workorder and Asset/Location, while creating child workorder there is popup message like GLaccount different for current workorder and Asset/Location combination, click Yes to update the new GL account, click No to put parent workorder GL account value. I did both after that upon saving the workorder got below error like "Required field Estimation Duration is blank" occur.
Any idea.
Thanks

I found the issue occurring for suppose the main Workorder and Asset/Location GL Accounts are same we are able to save the child workorder successfully.
If GL account different for parent workorder and Asset/Location, while creating child workorder there is popup message like GLaccount different for current workorder and Asset/Location combination, click Yes to update the new GL account, click No to put parent workorder GL account value. I did both after that upon saving the workorder got below error like "Required field Estimation Duration is blank" occur.
Thanks

I have tried what you said below I do not get the same on my 7.5.0.3 system
However its only an interpretation as I'm not sure what you mean by "I did both" you need to give explicit instructions

I'm on 6.2.6 so it may be different, but I thought it worth mentioning in case it's still the same:
--my DB Config does not have a default value set for this field; it's null -- you said yours is 0.00
--if I run the query
SELECT estdur FROM workorder
I get a lot of rows that have '0' (without the quotes of course) as the answer, not '0.00'
