Maximo v7.5.03
We have been working with IBM for months trying to get the Direct
Printing function to work. We finally reached the point where it will
print, but every time we run it, we get the following error:
Direct Print Java Error (jpeg) <http://db.tt/9jxrsGU0>
I assume that users are using this function. Do you get this message?
Have you been able to change any settings to avoid this message?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello, search this forum, there are other posts about this problem that may help you. FWIW, we cannot use direct print reliably on v7.1.1.6 because our network security updates continually cause conflicts with how it works in IE, which is what 90% of our users browse with. We've not been able to get IT to commit to ensuring the users' PCs are kept at the appropriate security config to allow for reliable use of the Direct Print function, so I was forced to disable it. :(

Hi ,
This feature only works with users with administrative privilege on the running PC , Limited users can't use the feature and the small window with "please wait" message appears and never closed , never print.
I hope to find solution with this.

Hi,
We are running Maximo 7.5.0.1 we instruct our users to check the I accept the risk and want to run this application then click Show options to click never ask again. This box only showed up for us after moving to JRE 1.7.x on the client side.

Thank you all.
It seems that this is not a perfected feature and it has a number of issues. We just needed to get a sense of whether it was only us or if it was a more widespread issue, which it does appear to be based on a number of configuration factors.

We have been having similar problems on 7.5.0.4. In our case, it started
when we went from JRE 1.6 to JRE1.7.0.17. Apparently, Oracle is in the
process of adding security features to the JREs, and starting with 17, there
are some built-in expiry dates on certain versions. The expiry date kicks
in whether or not you have the Java Update turned on or off, apparently.
Another message that people get is: your Java version is insecure, with a
prompt to update their version. This has turned out to be a problem for us,
since a number of our users do not have admin rights to their machines, and
cant run updates.

Hello,
Bill: When you mention network security updates, are referring to group policy updates around IE behavior or what Amir mentioned?
I was wondering if maybe you were able to add Maximo’s URL to your list of intranet sites within IE (or have your IT team do so as part of policy).
Oftentimes corporations will relax their security restrictions slightly for sites in the internet domain, and they may allow the execution of Java/ActiveX a little more widely in those circumstances.
Amir: Amir, once a user has Administrative privileges for the first time to run the install, do they need them afterwards?
I’ve seen situations with other products that use controls where users only needed elevated privileges once. After the initial run, it was no longer an issue.
Thanks,
Sean
