Issuing parts via "grocery checkout" style process?

From: richard_hoath (2013-06-21 18:04)

Wondering if anyone else has tackled simplifying the parts issue/return process for a large volume storeroom?
Parts all have barcodes. Work order report has barcode. Now need very simple UI for stores person to scan workorder and then scan the parts with minimal keyboard input. Aka grocery checkout style.
Maximo UI is not likely going to fit their needs. Any recommendations for mobile device and/or desktop solutions?
...just to complicate things, the site is running Maximo v6 via thin client Citrix.
thanks,
Richard

Why not a simplified Maximo screen?
You could write a simple app to capture the input and feed it to the MIF, also some scanners will store the data for downloading later.

I agree that a simplified Maximo screen could work and you should be able to do it without the MIF/MEA. Create a custom Self Service APP as these don't have list pages. make the first box for workorder number. then take advantage of the enter key selecting the default button (was added in 6.2 I think) and most scanners can be set up to input the value scanned and then enter function. use GUI defaults to populate the remaining fields.
When complete the user would only need to open Maximo and go to new app and then just scan and check then save.
I'm sure the community would like to know what you end up with.
