ok found something strange that works for the user but have no idea as to why. When he held the ctrl button down while he clicked download it worked but i dont understand why he needs to do that to work correctly?

I've seen this happen when there is already an excel window open or a user has already downloaded a list once and attempts to do it again without closing the window that previously open. So i would make sure all popup windows are closed..

We have a similar issue in 7.5.04…IE8…SQL database

We opened a PMR with IBM who is working on a resolution. It happen even when excel is not open. What we have to do is before we click on the download link we start with a RIGHT click and select ‘Save Target As’ doing it this way we are able to download in an excel format.

enabling this setting resolved the problem for the user
IE8---->Internet Options ----->Tools---->Security---->Trusted Sites---->Custom Level---->Downloads----> Prompting for file Downloads---->enable
