Websphere 8

From: (2014-03-28 09:01)

What advantages accrue from spreading Maximo JVMs ("instances") across multiple Windows servers in contrast to simply running those same instances on a single large Windows machine?

Is there any reason one might want to run Maximo on Websphere 8 rather than Websphere 7?

I am planning a Maximo installation upgrade for a client who needs performance improvements and wants to keep up with current releases. Currently on Maximo 7.1 and Websphere 7 on Windows 2003 32 bit (upgraded in situ from Maximo 6). They very much need to expand to a multiple instance configuration for all the usual reasons -- user load, tuning of special purpose instances etc. There are a couple of options that may offer advantages but what they might be is not clear to me, thus the questions above.

The selection of Windows 2008 or Windows 2012 is not mine, and I do not yet know which it will be. I favor 2012 to save the client a later upgrade but another team has operating system responsibility and the selection will be based on what they can support.

Oops, subject should directly connect to topic, this is about Websphere 8 but I managed to throw in the topic of multiple instances too. It's early in the morning heer.

Hi, We had the same question last year and the answer we received was "Maximo uses about 15% of WebSphere functionality and there is no point in installing v8". Another reason to stay with v7 was the fact that it comes free with Maximo :)
