PM Best Practices/Scheduler Procedures

From: miranda.anderson (2014-11-24 09:06)

I am struggling to define what the Planner/Scheduler is supposed to do. I have written a procedure that they should be following each week: "Go to PMs, Select Generate WOs from the Select Action menu, tell it you want to generate for today plus 7 days, ensure Use Frequency Criteria is checked, take note of any errors that are generated through this process from the message that follows..."
But I basically made all this stuff up (don't tell anyone!). I have no idea if this is "normal", or "best practice". Before my arrival everyone ignored Frequency Criteria and they just "forced" everything to come out when it felt like time. If somebody has an actual procedure document that outlines what their Planner/Scheduler does, I would be grateful for a copy.

I wanna share this experience.
One of my customer does a meeting every morning at 08:00 (office hour 7:30 - 16:30).
The meeting is strict 30 minutes to 1 hour discussing every SR (yesterday), WO PM due in 7 days in advance, and pending WOS.
Also discussing about every permit need for WOs and reservation material.
The meeting is attended by representative of operation, planner, scheduler and inventory section.
Hope this help to open view about seaching what the best practice in our organization.
Cheers,
Juniko

Miranda,
There's more to planning & scheduling than merely generating PMs.  I can recommend a text book on the subject written in 1999 by Doc Palmer titled "MAINTENANCE PLANNING AND SCHEDULING HANDBOOK",  published by McGraw-Hill Handbooks.  It makes no reference to any specific computerized CMMS system, but lays out the proper principles that should be implemented with your Maximo applications.
