Publishing Maximo to outside Vendors

From: incomm (2015-01-16 10:20)

We have a requirement to make Maximo available to outside vendors for them to be able to enter and view Purchasing records for their company.

I've set up the security on the Maximo side, and it's all working fine if you log into Maximo from inside the network, but now comes the part about making it available to the vendors for remote access.

Does anyone have a similar setup? If so, how was it done?

Strictly speaking, this is not a Maximo issue, but this is a smaller company in terms of the IT staff, and they're not sure where to go with this.

TIA

Shannon

You need to make your Maximo URL public.
the real issue here is that each vendor will need to have a Maximo User ID,
which mean you pay a license for them, which is not logic.
What I recommend is that you develop a Web Application, that you interface
with Maximo POs using webservces and make the WEB app available for your
vendors

Shannon,

As Mohamed said you need to make the Maximo URL public i.e. publicly accessible either via the internet or a Virtual Private Network solution.

If you are making the URL public then it is best to enable the HTTPS/SSL to ensure that the userid/password information is securely transported.

I'm not on my work PC so I don't have the relevant info to hand about this but it should be one of the manuals or IBM support should be able to provide info.

"What I recommend is that you develop a Web Application, that you interface

You need to be careful about this approach.
Last time I checked IBM's license guidance says something along the lines that you can't use these types of applications if the same functionality is available in Maximo.

best regards,

As long as you have the security set up correctly in Maximo, one way would be to give the vendor RDP (Remote Desk Protocol) access to a computer that only has access to Maximo and nothing else. Locking down that computer may take some configuration time. Or you can make the Maximo server public facing, or public facing to only certain IP ranges such as the vendors you work with. There are a lot of different ways you can accomplish your request.

Hi Shannon,

We're launching this very service at Interconnect in a few weeks. It's called MaxProcure and is a super easy to use web application for vendors. They go to the web portal (typically from an automatic email with a link to the new record waiting for them) to provide prices for RFQ's, receive and provide delivery dates for PO's, and submit invoices.

The MaxProcure.com service makes it easy to get competitive pricing, gives you more delivery dates for improved planning, and means you never have to manually transmit your PO's to vendors or rekey a vendor invoice into Maximo again.

Stop by the Asset Partners booth for a demo if you'll be in Vegas. Or we'll have a demo online you can see then as well.

Regards,
David Wadsworth
