Decommissioned Assets and It's History

From: fsanchez1087 (2015-02-02 12:34)

Hey Guys, how are y'all keeping history of decommissioned assets? The company I work for received Maximo over a year ago and now we are running into creating new assets when the old equipment is replaced in the field. I decommissioned the old asset and created a new one for the location but now Work Orders are having issues with the decommissioned asset. To clarify, both assets are under the location. Should I create a new location for "trashed" equipment and place the decommissioned asset in that location to retain it's history? What is your company doing? Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

Hi There
In our case we use a location called "Disposed" to transfer equipment to that has been removed / destroyed.
Asset location history is available from the ASSETTRANS table in the fromloc and toloc columns.
Will be interesting to see what others use.

The out-of-the-box solution is to create a location with Type SALVAGE to
store decommissioned assets. Optionally, you may choose to restrict
locations with Type SALVAGE or assets with status DECOMMISSIONED for most
of your users, to further reduce confusion. If you're decommissioning
assets in operating locations, you're going to run into clueless users
complaining that Maximo's counts are inaccurate because they don't know to
ignore or filter out the decommissioned assets.
Note, too, that if you store rotating items in storerooms, you must issue
them to operating or salvage locations to decommission them, because they
will throw off your current balance counts otherwise.
Maximo's out-of-the-box handling of decommissioned assets is clunky, to say
the least.

It seems the proper way is to create a location for the decommissioned assets and make it a SALVAGE type. Again, thanks for the help.
