Maximo Spatial Question - Why do we need DBlink

From: hiren2878 (2016-02-17 10:00)

Hi Folks..

This is related to Maximo Spatial setup with ESRI GIS.

I am not able to understand the significance of the DB link...
Why do we need DB link ?
If we don't have DB link, what we will miss ?
Is it not possible to get the Maximo spatial working without having DB link with ESRI geo-database ?

Thanks...

The version of the spatial integration I think you are referring to
"tricks" Maximo in to seeing the SDE tables as Maximo objects. It does this
by creating "proper" Maximo objects to represent the tables then once
Maximo believes they are there it drops them such that it then sees the
actual SDE tables in the separate database via the dblink and synonyms.
So, yes you need the dblink, unless the SDE schema is in the same database
as Maximo in which case you'd just need synonyms to those tables I suppose.
The whole point is that the setup process "tricks" Maximo in to thinking
the remote SDE tables are actually tables in the Maximo schema.
The latest version of spatial has a more refined approach to integrating
with the ESRI SDE tables.
