The default value on Work Order table for inherit status changes is Yes. Can anybody think of a good reason for this? If you are creating child work orders using routes or Job Plans, you can set them to inherit changes, so I don't see why this would be the default on ALL WOs...
Situation: When we raise follow-up WOs from a PM, we want to Complete the PM WO, but don't want the newly-created offspring to inherit this change. So I am currently asking humans to remember to un-check this box.

The inherit status change is there to close out child work orders if you close the parent work order.
I'm not clear why a follow up work order would inherit the status of the work order you created it from. I'm not able to replicate that on Maximo 7.5.0.8 out of the box using maxdemo data. The Inherit Status Changes checkbox is duplicated in the followup work order, but it doesn't mean it will inherit the status from the work order you just followed up on. It means any child work orders in the followup will inherit the status from the parent.

At our site, we just recently had the configuration changed so the default is UNchecked. It makes no sense to have to remember to UNcheck every work order and for us it was causing Child work orders to be closed before anyone had a chance to review them. As you pointed out, users can select Inherit Status changes in the PM module so there is no need for ALL work orders to have the default set to Yes and have users UNcheck the box.
We have had no issues since changing the default to UNchecked, our data accuracy and efficiency has actually improved.
