Not selecting the only Asset in a Location

From: miranda.anderson (2017-04-24 16:02)

One of my PMs executed on a location that had only one asset in it. But the PM was for the location, not that particular asset. (Starting to see the logic in having one location per asset and vice versa.)
Anyway, I searched the internet for ways to keep the asset from autopopulating and found quite a few, quite complicated answers. But most of the answers are quite old (2012).
Wondering if there is a new, less complicated answer that IBM created to solve this problem, since so many people seemed to have it.
When I got here, many of the locations had a "dummy" asset in them to prevent this issue. I really hate bastardizing a program that way, though. Would like to avoid that.

A second dummy asset is the way we had to do it in Maximo 3, 4, 5, and 6.  Or write lots of code.  The default in maximo was that if there is only one asset at a location and the location is selected, the asset auto polulates. Pat Morrow

I think there is an automation script example on the IBM website to kill the asset.

You can also make the location an ASSET, which is what I have done in the past. So if the PM is for the location, not a particular ASSET at the location you can just select the LOCATION as the ASSET being PM'd. We did this for daily walk through PM's where the engineer did a daily walk through of all the bathroom trailers, most of which also contained one or more ASSETS in them like water heaters, AC/HEAT units etc. The PM was just to check the facility for cleanliness and general operating condition every day, so the location also was listed as an ASSET in the system. Worked out great. Paul D. Bishop
