As far as I can remember, one cannot close a Work Order as long as it has an open PO associated with it. Am I missing something.

Hi,
We never had version 6 installed but I think the issue is the work order is now closed and the system cannot make any changes to the work order. Removing the WO from the PO the system may need to adjust the planned materials.
You'll need to have someone change the work order directly in the database to historyflag = 0 and status APPR. Then you should be able to change the PO and go back and close the WO. It's relatively easy to do but as always you should test this before doing it in production.
You can close a WO even if there is an open PO for that work order. That's the reason we do not allow any user to close a WO. They can only COMP complete a work order. Six months after the COMP status the system closes the work order. That way we can get all of the receipts and adjustments from invoices done before the close.

Hi,

We never had version 6 installed but I think the issue is the work order is
now closed and the system cannot make any changes to the work order.
Removing the WO from the PO the system may need to adjust the planned
materials.

You'll need to have someone change the work order directly in the database
to historyflag = 0 and status APPR. Then you should be able to change the
PO and go back and close the WO. It's relatively easy to do but as always
you should test this before doing it in production.

You can close a WO even if there is an open PO for that work order. That's
the reason we do not allow any user to close a WO. They can only COMP
complete a work order. Six months after the COMP status the system closes
the work order. That way we can get all of the receipts and adjustments
from invoices done before the close.

From: Shannon Rotz (2012-02-22 19:28)

I agree – I use a similar setup with my clients, i.e. no one can close a
work order, and no one can close a PO. I have escalations running to close
both of them.

The PO gets closed if a) the status is APPR; b) CHANGEDATE < {current date}
– xx days (usually 30 or 60); c) Receipts = ‘COMPLETE’; and d) all receipts
have been invoiced.

The Work order gets closed if a) status = ‘COMP’; b) CHANGEDATE < {current
date} – xx days (usually 60 or 90); and c) there are no open Pos referencing
that work order.

It works quite well, although a bit of training is usually needed on the
topic of completing PO receipts. A lot of users don’t realize that the
“Complete Receipts” function exists, and tend to resist the whole thing
until they are made aware of it.

Just my $.02 worth …

Hi,
We never had version 6 installed but I think the issue is the work order is
now closed and the system cannot make any changes to the work order.
Removing the WO from the PO the system may need to adjust the planned
materials.
You'll need to have someone change the work order directly in the database
to historyflag = 0 and status APPR. Then you should be able to change the PO
and go back and close the WO. It's relatively easy to do but as always you
should test this before doing it in production.
You can close a WO even if there is an open PO for that work order. That's
the reason we do not allow any user to close a WO. They can only COMP
complete a work order. Six months after the COMP status the system closes
the work order. That way we can get all of the receipts and adjustments from
invoices done before the close.

I think Dave forgot one more database update:

Delete from assethistory where wonum = {work order that was re-opened}

Otherwise, if the work order is attached to an asset, you will have problems
re-closing the work order.

Hi,

Maximo 7 does show up a warning message while trying to close a Work Order having an Open Purchase Order on it, but would let the user to Close. Not sure if this is a Multisite setting.

Thanks,
Phanish

Hi,
We never had version 6 installed but I think the issue is the work order is now closed and the system cannot make any changes to the work order.

Hi,
We use
wonum in
(Select distinct wonum
from workorder
where historyflag = 0
and (status = 'COMP' or status = 'COMPCLOSE')
and (woclass = 'WORKORDER' or woclass = 'ACTIVITY') )
and then in the escalation the Escalation Point is CHANGEDATE time interval 180 days.
It does not check for open POs. We've never had an open PO 180 days after they complete a work order. The users have a query and report to show overdue POs and they follow up internally with the users that created and approved the PO to get those processed.
Works for us.

Yes indeed you'll have to delete that record.
Since we stopped users from closing work orders several years ago I have not had to do this so I'd forgotten about that.
