BIRT vs. Cognos - Is BIRT going away?

From: mlevinson (2017-10-19 19:06)

Just curious if anyone has any information on the lifespan of BIRT with Maximo. I know IBM bought Cognos some time ago and with the development of Cognos Work Centers I am wondering if BIRT is short lived?

Two different targets.
Quick, operational reports are definitely BIRT. If the adhoc reporting could be beefed up, you might even be able to leave it behind.

Cognos is your long-lost analytic reporting tool. It's better leveraged as an OLAP reporting tool rather than a OLTP reporting tool. At least this is how I understand them.

I believe AdHoc reports are using the BIRT engine as well. It creates a BIRT report file that can be further edited in the BIRT designer.
